In this course we deepen understanding of the Francophone society by readings in French of texts dealing with the social and cultural problems in France and other Francophone countries. Reading of related texts in Korean is given as home assignment. Students can expect an additional plus from studying not only issues in society and culture but also rearing their reading abilities in French.

It contrives an understanding of French literature and French culture, focusing on the main authors in the history of French literature. The aim of this course is to enhance a basic understanding of French poetry, for students with a basic understanding of French. The students are given the texts, in original and in translation, of the most important works in French poetry, and the course will not rest at simple readings of foreign texts but aims to an overview of French cultural sensitivity through its poetry, as well as to an in-depth understanding of poetry in literature. To enable a direct experience of the sensitivity characteristic to each epoch, the students will moreover be given different materials on the cultural background of each work, ranging from music, art to architecture, through various audiovisual multimedia.

This course, for students with basic French writing skills, aims at cultivating writing skills of simple sentences. To improve the writing skills that will enable the student to be more logical and grammatically correct, and also the reading skills of original works in French, we focus on checking basic grammar matters, and train our thinking in French through home assignments, and try to practice the various functions of French.

The editorials and Korea-related articles of <Le Monde>, <Le Point> and other material are the main texts of this course, centered on cultivating the interest for current issues of the world and a critical view of present times. The course is made up of reading the main articles together with grammatical explanations and followed by discussions on related issues.
